BRIAN KRUG, DIRECTOR
I LOVE CAMP! From the time I was seven years old and growing up at a camp in upstate New York, I was hooked. My passion for camp grew well after my camper years as I held many roles from Counselor to Athletic Director to Special Events Director to Programming Director. Although I graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Communications, I knew that camping was the career for me and accepted a full time position at camp. As a full time “camp guy,” I was eventually promoted to be the Assistant Director at another camp in Pennsylvania. Then, in September of 2005, I got a call from Aunt Terri, who asked me to think about joining the Canadensis Family.
I’m so happy I took that call. Camp Canadensis is such an extraordinary place and as director, I want to make sure that all who join us each summer feel the same way. Me and our staff go to all lengths to ensure that campers feel they are in a warm, safe and nurturing environment. To do this, I feel it is important to partner with our campers’ parents to help create surroundings they are comfortable with. In the offseason, one of my favorite things to do is visiting many of our camp families in their homes.
“I know that I have one of the best jobs in the world!”
In the summertime, I am out with the campers and staff, sharing my experience and enthusiasm, whether it be shooting hoops on the basketball courts, tie dying in the Art Shack or up on the Canadensis stage in one of our camp musicals. I always hope that my energy and spirit for camp can be contagious to everyone around.
I am happy to share the camp experience with my wife Jaime, who was actually the one that decided there wasn’t a better place in the world to get married than at Canadensis back in May 2013. We can’t wait for our daughters Emerson and Rylie to one day get the opportunity to experience all that camp has to offer.
PAM MALTER, DIRECTOR
Camp Canadensis is my favorite place to be and I’m excited to share it with as many people as possible! Although I wasn’t lucky enough to grow up at Canadensis, I’ve attended sleep away camp programs since I was eight years old. During college, I had the opportunity to spend my first summer at Camp Canadensis as a counselor and Evening Activities Director. I’m thrilled to now have the opportunity to work for camp full time as one of the Directors.
During the year, I look for the most responsible and outgoing counselors, visit new camper families and establish lasting relationships. My main role during the summer is in the Programming Department. Our Programming team makes sure that we fill the 49 days of camp with as much fun and action as you can possibly imagine. It sounds like a lot of days to fill – but with the endless imagination and passion of our staff, there is NEVER enough room on the calendar for it all, which is why we have to come back each summer! I try to share hobbies that I’m passionate about with our Canadensis campers, and some of them are not things you’d expect – two of my favorites are Mah Jongg (a tile game) and Crocheting, and they have both caught on with Canadensis campers! Who knows what fun things we’ll try to add to our program next summer…
In recent years my husband, Dave Malter, has become part of the Camp Canadensis team. He now spends his summers working as a Boys Camp Head Counselor.
